Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour

1 Day

Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour is a short and exciting pilgrimage tour of the sacred site of Gosaikunda lake. Gosaikunda or “Gosain Kunda” is a freshwater lake, located at an altitude of 4,380 m (14,370 ft) above the sea level.

The Gosaikunda lake falls under the pristine Langtang National Park, in the Rasuwa District of Nepal. Moreover, the pristine lake has a surface area of 13.8 ha (34 acres) including all the 108 constituting lakes.

The sacred lake flows around to form the Trishuli River in the summers whereas it freezes during the winter months of October to June. There are 108 lakes in total, from small to medium in size. You can also find the majestic Lauribinayak pass (4,610 m / 15,120 ft) next to the lakes.

According to the Hindu mythology, the mighty Shiva and Gauri resided in Gosaikunda in ancient times. You can find the mention of the Gosainkunda in the Hindu scriptures of Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata Purana, and Ramayana.

Mahabharata also has a mention of “Samudra Manthan”, which directly relates to the origin of Gosaikunda. The holy water of Gosaikunda is of great importance during the festivals of Ganga Dashara, and Janai Purnima. Pilgrims flock the region during the Janai Purnima festival to dip in the holy waters.

According to mythology, Lord Shiva created Gosaikunda when he thrust his “Trishul” into a mountain to extract water after he had swallowed poison. Hence, a beautiful lake was formed in the mountains. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit this holy place every year to wash away their sins by dipping in the lake.
